Acrylic realism painting - colourful expressions of memory

I want to share a little bit about who i am and why i paint

About home.jpg

I have always been a creator - name an art medium and I’ve probably tried it at least once. I can’t say that I’ve always been successful with those creations, but it was more about the experimentation than the outcome. I am a self-taught artist (save for a few art classes that helped guide that unbridled creative chaos) and have found that I’ve learned so much through trial and error, which resulted in creating my own techniques and styles. I hand mix every colour that touches the canvas and use a wide range of tools (including my fingers) to create the textures you see in each painting. I focus on clean lines, high levels of detail and of course colour.

I currently live in a 1840’s farmhouse on two acres in Stirling, Ontario with my husband Dan and couple four-legged friends. I used to live in downtown Toronto - and loved it - but felt a need to do something different. We decided to move to the country to pursue the dream of living more sustainably and doing more of what we love. That was in 2017 - little did we know how impactful that decision would be over the next 5 years. Our property became a refuge and source of peace during a very difficult time in our lives. In February of 2020, my younger brother suddenly passed away and then, along with the rest of the world, we were suddenly dealing with a global pandemic. I focused so much of my grief, worry and anxieties into the gardens and our home, and I found them to give me peace and love in return.

You will probably see more of these themes in my painting emerge over the next while, I hope to bring you that peace and love through my work that I have found in my gardens and property. Please stay tuned to see what I come up with! Thank you for your support, it means the world to me and I hope to continue this journey with you.
